Immigration attorney to bring expert insight to Oglethorpe

On November 3, Oglethorpe will once again welcome leading immigration attorney Charles Kuck to campus. Kuck is Founder and Managing Partner of Kuck Baxter Immigration and oversees its worldwide immigration practice.

In the first part of his presentation, Understanding the U.S. Immigration Maze, Kuck will provide an overview of the immigration system, key information and resources essential for students to navigate the mess of laws and statuses. (3 p.m., Trustee Room)

Immediately following, U.S. Immigration Myths and Realities will give an historical perspective on immigration laws, with a focus on the 35 years since 1986, to highlight the problems and current/ongoing opportunities for immigration reform. (4:15 p.m. Trustee Room)

These presentations are open to the entire Oglethorpe community to learn more about the realities of our immigration systems and will give resources on how to assist immigrant people in the U.S. 

Attorney Charles Kuck

Kuck received his B.A. Degree from Brigham Young University. He earned his J.D., cum laude, from Arizona State University Law School. He is admitted to practice law in Georgia, Washington, D.C., and Arizona. As Founder and Managing Partner of Kuck Baxter Immigration, Kuck oversees its worldwide immigration practice and assists international immigrant investors, employers and employees with business and professional visas, labor certifications, immigrant visas, consular representation, and citizenship matters. He also maintains an active Federal Court practice focusing on immigration issues.

Kuck’s clients include technology firms, manufacturers, multinational corporations, individual EB-5 investors and entrepreneurs, as well as families, individual immigrants and asylum seekers. He was part of the group of attorneys that stopped a key provision of Georgia’s HB-87 anti-immigration law, he is currently representing and advocating for DACA recipients seeking to pay in-state tuition to attend Georgia Colleges and Universities.

He maintains a robust and rewarding pro bono practice and has been a professor for both survey and advanced immigration law classes at Emory University School of Law and The University of Georgia School of Law for the past 20 years. Kuck is a former National President of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, founding member and former president of the Alliance of Business Immigration Lawyers (ABIL), serves as Co-Chair of the City of Atlanta’s Welcoming America Commission, and as a Board Member of the Georgia Restaurant Association.

Kuck has testified in Congress on immigration issues, is frequently quoted in the press, and has appeared on national television (CBS, NBC, Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, Univision, Telemundo, Democracy Now, CNBC, National Public Radio), as well as in national and local publications. He is the voice of the most listened to podcasts on Immigration in the U.S. (“The Immigration Hour”). His blog provides insightful analysis of cutting-edge immigration and political topics relating to our broken immigration system.

Leading up to Kuck’s presentation next week, Oglethorpe is providing extensive programming on immigration topics as a part of its participation in the national “I Stand with Immigrants” Day of Action campaign.
