Photos: Scholarship Weekend welcomes future students and parents to campus

Approximately 300 students and more than 400 parents attended Scholarship Weekend at Oglethorpe University, where the future Petrels participated in seminars and competed for full-tuition scholarships through presentations and interviews.

Students were selected to attend the annual competition by the Admission Office, and nominated based on academic credentials, extra-curricular activities, leadership experience, a personal essay and recommendations.

“Each year, we have welcomed a more diverse and higher caliber group of students to Scholarship Weekend,” said Whitney Lewis, director of admission. “This year, we will have welcomed scholars from 25 states and four countries. I am continually amazed and humbled by the passion, maturity and critical engagement demonstrated by the students I meet.”

Throughout the weekend, students competed for full-tuition awards, including the James Edward Oglethorpe (JEO) Scholarship and Hammack Business Scholarship. In addition to the chance to earn a full-tuition award, all students who participated in the weekend will receive a renewable, annual merit award of at least $18,000.

A second Scholarship Weekend will take place February 21-22, 2020, when selected students will have the opportunity to compete for the OU Theatre Scholarship and the Civic Engagement and Service Scholarship, both of which are also full-tuition awards.
