Dr. Amanda Printz Whooley wins 2018 Garrett Award for Meritorious Teaching

Dr. Amanda Printz Whooley, associate professor of philosophy, was presented with the 2018 Lu Thomasson Garrett ’52 Award for Meritorious Teaching at Oglethorpe University’s commencement ceremony on May 12.

This annual award was established in 1994 through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. David (Lu Thomasson) Garrett. The late Mrs. Garrett was a 1952 Oglethorpe graduate, an honorary degree recipient, and member emerita of the Board of Trustees. The prize is awarded annually to an outstanding faculty member selected by a committee of his or her peers.

Dr. Whooley joined the Oglethorpe faculty in 2012. She earned her B.A. from Guilford College and Ph.D. from University of Southern California. Dr. Whooley’s areas of specialization include history of philosophy, early modern philosophy and ancient philosophy.
