Oglethorpe University has been gifted just over $18,000 from the Consulate General of Mexico in Atlanta and Primerica. The funds will go to financial aid for Mexican students or students of Mexican origin who are currently enrolled at Oglethorpe. The university will match the funding awarded and distribute it to qualified students.

Chris Summers ’03, director of financial aid, accepted on behalf of Oglethorpe at a ceremony held on Thursday, November 2 at the Mexican Consulate. Also in attendance were Daira Galindo ’21 and Jose Franco-Zuniga ’18, two of the students who benefit from the financial aid. The students also had the opportunity to meet with Consul General F. Javier Díaz de León.

The gift from the Consulate was made possible by a contribution from the organization Parents Alliance to the Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IME) Becas Scholarship Program. Oglethorpe was selected by a local committee to receive the funds.
