U.S. News & World Report: Oglethorpe Among Best National Liberal Arts Colleges

libraryinsideOnce again, Oglethorpe University was named to a list of Best National Liberal Arts Colleges—this time in U.S. News & World Report‘s 2016 rankings.

Universities nationwide are rated annually by U.S. News on the strength and quality of academic programs, in an effort to help prospective students and their families evaluate their higher education choices.

The 245 liberal arts colleges on the list emphasize undergraduate education and award at least half of their degrees in the arts and sciences, which include such disciplines as English, the biological and physical sciences, history, foreign languages and the visual and performing arts but exclude professional disciplines such as business, education and nursing. The list of National Liberal Arts Colleges includes 217 private, 27 public and one for-profit.

Oglethorpe also was rated by guidance counselors, from a nationwide sampling of high-ranking public high schools and the largest private independent schools, to be among schools they think offer the best undergraduate education to their students. In addition, Oglethorpe was recognized for “seek(ing) a broad and engaged student body” and having an environment “where spirit and hard work” matter, with its inclusion on the list of “A+ Schools for B Students.”
