Oglethorpe celebrates International Education Week

International Education Week (IEW) will be celebrated November 12-16, 2018 throughout the U.S. and the world—and at Oglethorpe.

IEW is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education and serves as an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide, and to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences.

This year, the Global Education office in the Atlanta Laboratory for Learning is spearheading an information campaign about IEW and offering opportunities for the entire campus community to hear about international and study abroad students’ personal international educational experiences.

Stop by the tables outside the dining hall from 12-1:30 p.m. each day to talk with students and learn about specific benefits of international education for Oglethorpe, our local community, and the nation.

Anyone living in a campus residence hall or visiting the dining hall will also see “Did you know?” flyers and economic impact statements developed annually by NAFSA: Association of International Educators and the Institute of International Education.

This year, our efforts are focused on students sharing their stories about the impact of international educational exchange on their lives to encourage curiosity in their peers to study abroad or connect with an Oglethorpe international student. We’ve also recorded several short interviews with students that will be shown throughout the week in campus center.

The Oglethorpe International Ambassadors student organization will conclude IEW Friday afternoon with food and games in the campus center “fishbowl”. We encourage everyone to stop by to talk with the students to learn and celebrate the benefits of international exchange.
