The Kathryn T. McClymond Scholarship Fund has been launched in honor of Oglethorpe University’s 18th president and first female president, Dr. Kathryn McClymond, on the occasion of her inauguration Sept. 20.
“I’m grateful that Oglethorpe alumni and friends share my passion for making academic excellence attainable for everyone,” McClymond said. “Seeing students thrive and achieve a self-determined life because of the opportunities and support they receive from an Oglethorpe education is one of the best parts of being president.”
The scholarship will be an endowed, merit-based scholarship designed to support outstanding Oglethorpe students through all four years of college. Alumni and donors are already contributing to endow the fund so that it can begin paying out scholarships next fiscal year.
At Oglethorpe, 90% of students receive merit-based scholarships, and more than 99% of students receive some form of financial aid. Oglethorpe University seeks to grow and enhance its endowed student scholarship funds under Dr. McClymond’s leadership.
“We have had so many people reach out and ask about the most appropriate way to honor President McClymond for her inauguration,” said Sarah Emerson, vice president of Advancement. “Giving to this endowed scholarship would be a special way to show your support and connect meaningfully to something President McClymond cares deeply about.”
Those who wish to make gifts to Oglethorpe in Dr. McClymond’s honor can join her in supporting the scholarship fund with a gift through the Oglethorpe website.
