2024 Senior Gift Campaign sets record for number of donors

The Class of 2024 surpassed its goal for the annual Seniors for Students Senior Gift Campaign, setting a new university record of 162 donors from the graduating class. This year’s campaign raised crucial funds for Career Development’s Career Closet, which is a campus resource that helps to alleviate the financial burden of purchasing professional clothing for career fairs, interviews and the workplace. The Career Closet offers new and gently used professional clothing, allowing Petrels to be career-ready as they head out into new professional roles.

Senior Class President Randi Parks ’24 emphasized the importance of picking the Career Closet for their Senior Gift Campaign.

“The Career Closet has been a vital resource for our senior class, providing professional attire for interviews and career fairs that many of us could not afford otherwise,” said Parks. “Choosing this as our class project was a collective decision rooted in our desire to empower every student to step confidently into their future careers.”

The annual Seniors for Students Senior Gift Campaign is an Oglethorpe tradition that encourages graduating seniors to give back and invest in their soon-to-be alma mater, beginning their philanthropic relationship with the university.

“Philanthropy and giving back to OU are essential in fostering a community that supports its members,” says Parks. “Coming together as a class to support the Career Closet has shown the incredible impact we can make when we unite for a common cause. Every donation was a step towards helping our peers succeed.”

Dr. Lisa Conley, director of career development, expressed her gratitude for the donations and support.

“The students at OU have many incredible attributes. One thing that consistently wows me is how much they care about one another,” said Conley. “Class of 2024, your gift is Petrels helping Petrels at the highest level. With sincere gratitude, the Office of Career Development is inspired by our willingness to leave a legacy for your classmates by supporting the Career Closet.”
