“Destination Day” celebrates graduating seniors’ future plans

Earlier this week, graduating seniors stopped by the Turner Lynch Campus Center to participate in “Destination Day,” a celebration of Petrels’ post-grad plans. Hosted by Career Development and supported by the Office of Student Success, the festivities included a Delta Airlines gift card raffle drawing, free Oglethorpe swag, and King of Pops.

Seniors who have already participated in this year’s Senior Gift Campaign were also able to pick up a special graduation cord.

Before attending Destination Day, students were asked to complete the First Destination Survey (FDS), which asked about their plans after graduation later this month. More than 100 seniors have already completed their FDS. The survey helps Career Development assist students still looking for jobs and helps inform future graduates about career possibilities.

Those who completed the survey were entered into a Delta Airlines gift card raffle drawing and received Oglethorpe luggage tags and professional padfolios.

Many of the Class of 2024 Petrels have already secured post-graduation job placements at various employers, including the City of Brookhaven, Alliance Theatre, Northside Hospital, Emory University, Jonathan W. Johnson LLC, and Jim Ellis Automotive Group. Additionally, several students will be pursuing graduate programs at Ohio State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and North Carolina State University.

Graduating seniors who have not yet completed the First Destination Survey are still encouraged to participate. There will be another giveaway at the Carillon Ceremony. Students can also still donate to the Senior Gift Campaign and receive their cord at the ceremony.
