Each year, Oglethorpe’s graduating class launches a “Seniors for Students” fundraising campaign as a way to leave their lasting legacy on campus. This student-led gift campaign is a way for seniors to not only pay it forward to the next generation of Petrels, but to also begin their philanthropic relationship with the university.
This year’s senior gift campaign, led by Senior Class President Randi Parks ’24, is raising funds for Petey’s Closet. Petey’s Closet is a vital initiative with two goals. The first goal of this initiative is to help combat clothing insecurity on our campus by offering essential items to students in need. The second goal is to help advocate for responsible consumption and to work towards reducing clothing waste in the Oglethorpe community.
“The reality is that many of our fellow students face challenges that extend beyond the classroom, and clothing insecurity is an issue that touches the lives of many,” says Parks. “By supporting Petey’s Closet, we are not just making a difference; we are fostering a culture of compassion and inclusivity within our community.”
Parks and her fellow Senior Senators are working towards 100% participation from all seniors by the 2024 Carillon Ceremony in May.
At the October Senior Class Mixer, Parks encouraged her fellow seniors to give to this campaign with her passionate call to action: “Let’s make our senior year truly remarkable by leaving a legacy of care and generosity. Together, we can make a substantial impact, and I have no doubt that the Class of 2024 will rise to this challenge with the same determination and spirit that has defined us throughout our academic journey.”
Students are requested to donate $20.24 to commemorate their graduation year, but any amount is welcome. While every dollar matters, every donor matters even more. All members of the Oglethorpe community are invited to contribute to support this exciting new initiative at Oglethorpe.
