Oglethorpe University Theatre is kicking off the new season with a touch of magic. Coming to Conant Performing Arts later this month is “Fairycakes,” a whimsical comedy adventure that transports iconic characters from Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” to classic fairy tale worlds where, as they say, hilarity ensues.
The story of “Fairycakes” revolves around a peculiar mishap that sends a group of familiar Shakespearean characters on an unexpected journey. From Titania to Oberon, Mustard Seed to Cobweb, and even the mischievous Puck, these characters find themselves mixed up in the affairs of well-known characters like Cinderella, Pinocchio, and Aurora for a poignant, hilarious and fantastical tale.
“Fairycakes” is a delightful twist on the stories audiences already know while offering a fresh perspective on timeless classics.

The production is a testament to the creative spirit that thrives at Oglethorpe; the theatre department has worked hard to bring this production to life. It’s a perfect way to kick off the new academic year, blending academia with entertainment and showcasing the talents of students.
“Fairycakes” will premiere on Oct. 20 — the first day of Family Weekend. After a full itinerary of events, activities, exhibitions and more, finish out the day at the Conant Performing Arts Center for a delightful theatre experience.
