The Oglethorpe University Counseling Center has introduced a new service, Petrel After-Hours Support Services (PASS), to support students after regular business hours.
Made possible through a grant from the Frueauff Foundation, PASS provides after-hours support to students experiencing a mental health crisis. Students living on and off campus can talk to a qualified counselor by calling the Counseling Center main number at 404-364-8456.
PASS also allows anyone in the OU community to call after-hours to express concern about a student and consult. The program is designed to assist campus staff in responding to after-hours student concerns. Campus Safety and Residence Life staff may encourage students in emotional distress to call and speak with a counselor and receive a prompt assessment, recommendations, and safety planning.
“The immediate crisis or concern will be addressed through the call, and the Counseling Center staff will follow up with the student and/or caller in the days following to ensure continuity of care,” says Counseling Center Director Dr. Michelle Lyn. “Calling the after-hours line does not take the place of submitting a PACT report, which is still advised in most cases of student concern.”
Oglethorpe students can receive after-hours support and talk to a counselor by calling the Counseling Center at 404-364-8456. To schedule an appointment or learn about other available counseling services, visit counseling.oglethorpe.edu.
