Countdown to commencement and welcoming our newest Alumni Association members

We’re so close to welcoming the newest members of the Oglethorpe Alumni Association! Commencement for the class of 2023 is nearly here and end of year celebrations have already begun.

Destination Day,” an event hosted by Career Development, allowed seniors to reflect on their time at Oglethorpe and celebrate their post-graduation destinations. Students proudly revealed plans to start careers secured at a wide range of companies, internships in cities around the world, pursuits of attending graduate school, and more.

Students Today Alumni Tomorrow (STAT), the student alumni association, also hosted its end-of-year celebration. Five of their six executive board members are graduating seniors. STAT works with the Oglethorpe Alumni Association to fulfill its mission of bridging the gap between current students and alumni. Through STAT, students are given exclusive opportunities to engage with alumni who share common interests in fields of study or have graduated with similar degrees.

“Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow has truly been a transformative part of my college journey,” said Jakeb Sanders ’23, president of STAT. “Through this program, I have had the invaluable opportunity to connect and engage with accomplished alumni from diverse backgrounds and professions, gaining insights that have broadened my perspective and inspired me to achieve my own goals. As a proud member of STAT, I highly recommend that fellow students take advantage of this remarkable resource, as it can truly pave the way for their success both during and after their time on campus.”

Graduating seniors of STAT are invited to serve as members of the Young Alumni Club (YAC). This club, a succeeding organization for STAT, is comprised of alumni who have graduated within the past 10 years. YAC members program 3-4 events each year to keep young alumni engaged, participate in volunteer opportunities to support current students, and may choose to monetarily invest in the future of Oglethorpe.

Members of YAC and other alumni volunteers will soon help seniors “ring in the next chapter” at the beloved tradition, the Carillon Ceremony, on Thursday, May 18.
