Oglethorpe University’s Hammack School of Business welcomed Julien and Kiersten Saunders on April 4 to deliver this semester’s Rikard Lecture.

The Saunders are authors of “Cashing Out: Win the Wealth Game By Walking Away,” named a Best Personal Finance book of 2022 by Business Insider. They are also the creative voices behind the blog richandregular.com, hosts/producers of the award-winning video series, Money on the Table, and hosts of the rich & REGULAR podcast, presented by Success Magazine. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, their mission is to inspire better conversations about money.

The couple has used frugal living, real estate, stock market investing and their online business to build wealth and ultimately achieve financial independence. They paid off $200,000 in five years and their story has been featured on Good Morning America, The NY Times, Forbes, CBS This Morning, Marketwatch, the Oprah Winfrey Network and more. When they’re not inspiring better conversations about money, they are parents to their son Beau, traveling the world or searching for their next great meal.

 The authors and podcast hosts shared tips for developing personal financial independence and fielded questions from students, rewarding questions with copies of their book “Cashing Out”. 

The Mack A. Rikard Lecture Series introduces students to current issues in business as presented by top business and civic leaders. Established in 1991, it is named after the late Mack A. Rikard ’37, an Oglethorpe alumnus, honorary degree recipient, Athletic Hall of Fame member and Trustee Emeritus. Rikard was former president of Allied Products Company in Birmingham, Alabama, and a supporter of Oglethorpe athletics and student scholarships.
