The Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation is a public charity that provides support for the education of female students in nine Southeastern states. For decades, they have provided scholarship support to Oglethorpe University students in a range of academic disciplines.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation for its long-standing partnership and support,” says Juan McGruder, vice president of advancement. “Together, we have set hundreds of students on a pathway for lifelong success, preparing them to be responsible and productive contributors to a global society.”

Recipients of the Lettie Pate Whitehead scholarship are engaged in campus life, serving as mentors, advocates, and leaders among their peers. They are involved in numerous organizations such as the Presidential Emerging Leaders, Dedicated to Diversity Cohort, Organization of International Ambassadors, and university athletic teams, just to name a few.

The Foundation’s previous grant to OU supported 61 students in the Fall 2022 semester by removing financial barriers. Isabel Forster ’24 is one of these scholarship recipients. As a third-year student majoring in international relations, Isabel is exploring her interests in international development-related goals.

“Receiving the Lettie Pate Whitehead scholarship has impacted my college experience in a variety of ways. I am ecstatic to see where my unwavering faith and interdisciplinary education will take me in my future career,” she says.

Oglethorpe is committed to assisting students with financial need in their educational pursuits, and generous support like this helps students stay on track to graduation by easing their financial burdens. With the Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation’s latest grant, OU will be able to provide more students with financial support as they pursue their educational and personal goals.
