Personal finance website WalletHub puts Oglethorpe University in the top third of colleges and universities in the country, and top six of Georgia, in its 2022-23 ranking of over 900 institutions to “determine the top-performing schools at the lowest possible costs to undergraduates.”
The annual rankings look at 30 key measures, with the data set grouped into seven categories, including Student Selectivity, Cost & Financing, and Career Outcomes. The metrics range from student-faculty ratio to graduation rate to post-attendance median salary.
Recognizing the challenge of predicting future outcomes, WalletHub’s Best Colleges ranking also analyzes post-attendance metrics — the student-loan default rate and the share of former students out earning high school graduates, for instance — to show the value of the education students can expect to receive beyond their undergraduate studies.
Notably, Oglethorpe was ranked in the top 20 percent of U.S. schools in ‘Cost and Financing.’ This ranking evaluates an institution’s total cost of attendance, whether or not career services are readily available for students and the average amount of student loans awarded to full-time, first-time undergraduates.
“There are many ways to rank and rate colleges and universities today, and the WalletHub ranking highlights variables we are committed to,” Oglethorpe University President Nick Ladany said. “It’s an honor to be ranked in the top 10 in this state where there are so many outstanding institutions. This ranking recognizes the value and quality of an Oglethorpe education, and we’re excited to see others are taking notice.”
