Fiske Guide to Colleges puts Oglethorpe among top 10 ‘best buy’ private universities in the U.S.

The Fiske Guide to Colleges has named Oglethorpe University to its annual top 20 list of “Best Buy” colleges and universities nationwide for the sixth consecutive year.

Comprised of 10 private and 10 public colleges and universities, the list recognizes a select group of schools noted for quality academic offerings and affordable cost.

These are schools that Fiske editors have determined offer “outstanding educational value as determined by academic quality in relation to the net cost of attendance.”

Oglethorpe is the only Georgia institution to make the list. Fiske specifically called out Oglethorpe’s “highly diverse student body and extensive financial aid,” as well as the university’s broad academic values, interdisciplinary Core program, and location in “the South’s most exciting city” of Atlanta.

Ninety percent of Oglethorpe students receive merit scholarships and 99% receive financial aid through a range of scholarship and aid, including the university’s signature Flagship 50 merit scholarship program. OU graduates also are among those with the lowest average student loan debt in the nation.

Fiske’s 2023 list includes the following 20 public and private colleges and universities:
