COVID-19 vaccination policy for fall 2021

This message was updated on July 29, 2021, to reflect an update to the location of the Brookhaven vaccination site.

In an effort to safeguard the health and well-being of students, employees, and the surrounding community, Oglethorpe will mandate students, faculty, and staff to be fully immunized against COVID-19 for the fall 2021 semester. A fully vaccinated campus will help achieve herd immunity and reduce the spread of COVID-19 and variants ahead of a full return to campus this fall. Individuals may apply for an exemption as a medical or religious accommodation.

An individual is fully vaccinated once two or more weeks have passed after receiving the second dose of a two-dose vaccine, such as the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines, or once two weeks have passed after receiving the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. International students who do not have access to an approved vaccine will receive assistance acquiring the vaccine once they arrive to campus.

Students and employees should check their email from June 16, 2021 for instructions on how to acknowledge their vaccination status through the appropriate form. Students and employees should acknowledge their vaccination status OR follow the prompts to apply for an exemption as a medical or religious accommodation through the same form, which are linked below. The deadline for students to acknowledge their vaccination status is August 13, 2021.

To encourage students and employees to take prompt action, those who confirm their vaccination status by July 15 will be entered to win one of three $100 Visa gift cards.

Students without a valid exemption and those who fail to confirm their vaccination status may be placed on suspension, dropped from courses and/or become ineligible to join the campus community.

Employees should return to work on campus August 2, 2021. The fall semester begins for students on August 30, 2021. View the academic calendar for fall 2021.
