Dr. John Nardo named Interim Dean of Hammack School of Business

Associate Provost and Professor of Mathematics John Nardo will serve as the Interim Dean of the Hammack School of Business, announced Dr. Glenn Sharfman, provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Dr. John NardoHis term begins on July 1 and will continue until the position is filled following a nationwide search, planned to launch this fall. Dr. Nardo has been Associate Provost for the past three years, and will continue in that role while Interim Dean.

Dr. Nardo also serves as Oglethorpe’s Director of Academic Assessment and liaison to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states. Previously, he was Interim Co-Provost during the 2013-2014 academic year.

“With over two decades of service here, he understands the mission of OU and HSB very well, and I am confident he will continue the momentum that Dean (Dennis) Kelly and the HSB faculty have built,” wrote Dr. Sharfman in the announcement. “I consider him an important part of our academic leadership team.”

Dr. Nardo earned his BA at Wake Forest in both English and Mathematics, and then his MS and PhD in Mathematics at Emory University. Dr. Nardo arrived at Oglethorpe in 2000 and has been one of its leaders in pedagogical reform through his work with SENCER (Science Education for New Civic Engagements and Responsibilities). His teaching and research interests include knot theory, probability, statistics, topology, and mathematical economics.
