The Southern Athletic Association announced the suspension of the 2020 spring sports season Friday morning. After Friday, March 20, all conference competition, spring championships and postseason awards will be suspended. The conference put out a statement that read as follows: “On Thursday, the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Presidents Council met with regards to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
The SAA named every spring sports senior student-athlete an SAA Player of the Week Monday. A total of 24 Stormy Petrel student-athletes earned the honor.
Smith earns WBCA All-America honorable mention, Richey named finalist for national coach of the year
The Oglethorpe women’s basketball team saw two more accolades roll in Thursday for their outstanding season. The Stormy Petrels saw junior guard Taylor Smith named a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) all-america honorable mention and head coach Alex Richey named a finalist for the organization’s national coach of the year award.
The Oglethorpe women’s basketball team finished the season at a high-water mark of No. 8 in the D3hoops.com Top 25, released this week by the website. The poll is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, sports information directors and media members from across the country.
Richey named South Region Coach of the Year, LeGate earns second career All-Region honor from D3hoops.com
D3hoops.com named Oglethorpe women’s basketball head coach Alex Richey its South Region Coach of the Year and placed Stormy Petrel junior center Savannah LeGate on its All-South Region second team Tuesday. It marked the first regional award of Richey’s career and the second career all-region honor for LeGate.
D3hoops.com named junior guard Dimetri Chambers of the Oglethorpe men’s basketball team to their All-South Region second team Tuesday. It marked the first such award of his career and the first time a member of the Stormy Petrels earned the honor since Todd Ward in 2011.
