Women’s basketball moves up in both major polls

The Oglethorpe women’s basketball team improved their standing in both major polls Tuesday, moving up a spot to No. 10 in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll and jumping a couple spots to No. 13 in the D3hoops.com Top 25.

Women’s basketball moves on to SAA semifinals with 64-32 win over Hendrix

The Oglethorpe women’s basketball team got their SAA Tournament off to an outstanding start Sunday afternoon, downing the eighth-seeded Hendrix Warriors 64-32 at Dorough Field House in the tournament’s opening round. The win improved the Stormy Petrels to 25-1 on the season.

Women’s basketball remains 11th in coaches’ poll, 15th in D3hoops.com

The Oglethorpe women’s basketball team remained locked in at No. 15 in the D3hoops.com Top 25 and No. 11 in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top 25 Coaches Poll released Tuesday. It marked the sixth straight week for the Stormy Petrels in the D3hoops.com poll, and their 11th consecutive and 12th overall week in the coaches poll.

Baseball

Baseball sweeps doubleheader from DePauw

The Oglethorpe baseball team won a pair of games over the DePauw Tigers, their former rivals out of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, Sunday at Anderson Field. They defeated the visitors 10-3 in the opener and 5-3 in the nightcap to improve to 3-5 on the young season.

Baseball schedule changes for the weekend

The Oglethorpe baseball team’s schedule changed again due to the relentless wet weather for the Atlanta area during the month of February. Friday’s previously scheduled game against former Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference foe DePauw has been postponed due to wet grounds at Anderson Field and will be made up as part of a doubleheader Sunday.

Women’s lacrosse routs Huntingdon 11-3

The Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team led from beginning to end in an 11-3 rout of the homestanding Huntingdon Hawks Saturday afternoon in Montgomery, Alabama. The victory improved the Stormy Petrels to 2-2 on the season. In a low-scoring first half, the Petrels tallied three of the four goals to take a 3-1 lead into the halftime break.

Women’s lacrosse sees late comeback fall just short in 12-11 loss to Piedmont

The Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team hung tough against a quality Piedmont team Wednesday night at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, but a late comeback from a 3-goal deficit came up a goal short in a 12-11 loss to the visiting Lions. The defeat dropped the Stormy Petrels to 1-2 on the season overall.

Track & Field

Track and field competes at USC Indoor Open

The Oglethorpe track and field teams completed their final full indoor meet of the season Saturday at the USC Indoor Open in Columbia, South Carolina. The men’s team saw the distance medley relay squad take first place in 10 minutes, 29.9 seconds. Freshman Stephen Graffius, sophomore Bryce McNealey, freshman Parker Campbell and sophomore Thomas Ridley completed the victory.

Men’s basketball sees season come to close in 93-68 SAA Tournament loss to Millsaps

The Oglethorpe men’s basketball team saw their season come to a close Sunday, as the fourth-seeded Stormy Petrels fell to an outstanding effort from fifth-seeded Millsaps 93-68 in the first round of the SAA Tournament at Dorough Field House. The loss ended Oglethorpe’s season at 14-12 overall.

Men’s Tennis

Men’s tennis suffers first loss to NAIA Florida National

The Oglethorpe men’s tennis team dropped to 1-1 on the young season Saturday, falling 8-1 to the visiting Florida National Conquistadors at the Howell Courts. The lone Stormy Petrel victory on the morning came from the doubles team of junior Walker Benson and junior Calvin Schneider, who defeated their opponent 8-4 in the top-line doubles match.

Women’s tennis falls 6-3 to Florida National

The Oglethorpe women’s tennis team suffered their second loss of the season Saturday at the Howell Courts, dropping a match to the Florida National Conquistadors 6-3. The Stormy Petrels got a pair of victories in the doubles competition, giving them a 2-1 lead headed to singles play.

Men’s Lacrosse

Men’s lacrosse drops 16-3 decision at Greensboro

The Oglethorpe men’s lacrosse team fell to 3-3 on the season Saturday afternoon in North Carolina, losing to the homestanding Greensboro Pride 16-3. The Stormy Petrels scored just one goal over the final three quarters, allowing Greensboro to pull away for the victory.
