The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) was seeking talent to sing the National Anthem at the NCAA Basketball Men’s Final Four Championship in Atlanta.

With encouragement from Dr. Timothy Powell, three Oglethorpe students auditioned for the opportunity—and freshman Joe Scott ’23 was chosen to sing the anthem on the national stage.

Dr. Powell, director of the Oglethorpe Singers, describes Scott as “a real asset to our quickly growing program.”

A choral scholar, Scott is a member of University Singers and the OU Chorale, Oglethorpe’s select choir.

“Joe has been a great addition to our music program, as well as to the theatre program.”

The Theatre major also distinguished himself during his first semester on campus by receiving the lead role in the fall musical Spring Awakening, and playing a leading role in Rehearsal Room C’s fall production of The Normal Heart.

Watch Scott perform the national anthem at the NCAA Division III Championship Game on April 4 at 12:30 p.m. at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, where Division I, II, and III basketball teams will be competing for the National Champion title. The game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
