Men’s tennis notches 5-4 win over SCAD-Atlanta to open season

The Oglethorpe men’s tennis team got theri spring season off to an outstanding start Saturday afternoon with a 5-4 victory over the SCAD-Atlanta Bees on the Howell Courts. It served as the first victory in the career of head coach Paul Danielson, and got the Stormy Petrels off to a fantastic start for the fall season.

Women’s Basketball

Women’s basketball finishes undefeated SAA campaign, downs Berry 62-47

The Oglethorpe women’s basketball team dropped the Berry Vikings 62-47 Saturday evening, completing the first undefeated conference season in program history and improving to 24-1 on the season. The Stormy Petrels used 7-point margins in both the first and fourth quarter to pull away from Berry en route to the 15-point win.

Women’s basketball remains 11th in coaches’ poll, 15th in

The Oglethorpe women’s basketball team remained locked in at No. 15 in the Top 25 and No. 11 in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top 25 Coaches Poll released Tuesday. It marked the sixth straight week for the Stormy Petrels in the poll, and their 11th consecutive and 12th overall week in the coaches poll.


Baseball nabs 8-3 win over Greenville to begin Rawlings Southern Classic

The Oglethorpe baseball team picked up its first victory of the season Friday evening at Anderson Field, besting the visiting Greenville Panthers 8-3 on the first day of the Rawlings Southern Classic. The Stormy Petrels tallied five runs in the second inning to take control of the game, then held on via outstanding pitching for the five-run victory.

Greensboro pulls away from baseball late, wins 19-4

The Oglethorpe baseball team hung with the visiting Greensboro Pride for much of the game on the final day of the Rawlings Southern Classic Sunday afternoon at Anderson Field. However, Greensboro pulled away late with 15 runs over the final four innings, including 6 in the ninth, en route to a 19-4 victory.

Baseball falls to Ferrum 9-4 in Rawlings Southern Classic

The Oglethorpe baseball team came into Saturday?s matchup against the Ferrum Panthers looking to build on a strong 8-3 victory Friday night over Greenville. The home side battled, but were unable to complete a late comeback, falling 9-4 to the visitors.

Baseball continues offensive struggles in 4-1 loss at Piedmont

The Oglethorpe baseball team fell 4-1 to the in-state Piedmont Lions in Demorest Wednesday night, dropping to 1-5 on the young season. The Stormy Petrels recorded only six hits in the contest, none of them for extra bases. Oglethorpe pitching held Piedmont to just six hits, also, but three of those were for extra bases.

Men’s lacrosse pulls away from Centenary 15-7

Men’s lacrosse drops 8-5 decision at Huntingdon

The Oglethorpe men’s lacrosse team fell behind in the first half Wednesday night in Montgomery, Alabama, against the homestanding Huntingdon Hawks. Despite a late comeback by the Stormy Petrels, the deficit proved too much in an 8-5 loss. The result dropped the Petrels to 3-2 on the young season.

Track & Field

Track and field competes at Samford Invite

The Oglethorpe track and field teams competed at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Alabama for the third time this season Saturday, attempting to make a mark in the open section of the Samford Invite in Alabama.

Men’s Basketball

Men’s basketball falls in final regular season game

The Oglethorpe men’s basketball team dropped their final game of the regular season Saturday in Mount Berry, falling to the homestanding Berry Vikings 78-66 to drop into a third-place tie in the SAA. The Stormy Petrels trailed much of the game and never really could gain a foothold in the contest.

Women’s Tennis

Women’s tennis falls to SCAD-Atlanta 6-3

The Oglethorpe women’s tennis team fought hard in its season opener against the SCAD-Atlanta Bees Saturday at the Howell Courts, but fell 6-3 in the end to drop to 0-1 on the season. The Bees swept the Stormy Petrels in doubles play, going ahead 3-0 and putting the home team behind the eight-ball from the remainder of the afternoon.

Women’s Lacrosse

Women’s lacrosse falls to Sewanee in SAA opener

The Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team fell to 1-1 on the season Sunday afternoon with a 20-3 defeat at the hands of the Sewanee Tigers in Tennessee in the SAA opener for both teams. The home side scored eight goals over the opening 20 minutes before the Petrels were able to respond, and Oglethorpe was never able to work their way back into the game.

Women’s lacrosse sees late comeback fall just short in 12-11 loss to Piedmont

The Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team hung tough against a quality Piedmont team Wednesday night at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, but a late comeback from a 3-goal deficit came up a goal short in a 12-11 loss to the visiting Lions. The defeat dropped the Stormy Petrels to 1-2 on the season overall.
