The Oglethorpe athletic department saw 64 student-athletes named to the 2019 fall SAA Academic Honor Roll Thursday. In order to qualify to be on an SAA Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.25 GPA for the term(s) during which they’re engaged in athletic competition.

The Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team’s season got off to a wintry start Saturday at the Oglethorpe Track and Field, as they played through accumulated snow and the accompanying frigid temperatures to secure a 14-11 victory over Truett McConnell in their season opener at the Oglethorpe Track and Field.
Sophomore midfielder Jalina Rodriguez earned SAA Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week honors from the league office Monday, marking her first career SAA weekly award. Rodriguez led Oglethorpe to a 14-11 win over Truett McConnell. The Stormy Petrel midfielder finished with five ground balls and six caused turnovers.
The Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team returns to action this weekend, taking on Truett McConnell Saturday at 1 p.m. to get their season started, and they’ll be looking to move up the SAA standings after nabbing sixth place and a spot in the SAA playoffs in 2019.
Former Oglethorpe men’s soccer standout Topher Marshall will play professionally for Chattanooga of the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) this season, the club announced this week. Marshall earned his way onto the squad with successful tryouts earlier in the winter.
Sophomore goalie Addison Irwin of the Oglethorpe men’s lacrosse team was named the SAA Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week In two wins against Averett and Shorter, Irwin earned a combined 30 saves and stopped 68.2 percent of opponents’ shots. Against Averett, Irwin made 12 saves and had a 5.00 goals-against average.
The Oglethorpe baseball team returns to the field this weekend, taking on Maryville (Tennessee) to open their 2020 campaign with a three-game set. The Stormy Petrels come off a season in which they went 14-30 overall and 8-13 in SAA play, finishing tied for sixth in the league.
The season-opener for the Oglethorpe baseball team will have to wait until Sunday, as the Stormy Petrels and Maryville (Tennessee) Scots were snowed out Saturday at Anderson Field. The game will not be made up, but the two teams will face off at Anderson Field in a previously scheduled doubleheader Sunday beginning at noon.
The Oglethorpe baseball team had a tough day to open their season Sunday afternoon at Anderson Field, falling to the visiting Maryville (Tennessee) Scots in a pair of contests, 9-5 and 9-2. The Stormy Petrels led early in the first game, but a 4-run fifth inning turned the tables in the Scots’ favor for that contest and they continued the momentum into Game 2.
The Oglethorpe baseball team will see multiple schedule changes due to forecast weather this week. Tuesday’s previously scheduled game against LaGrange on Tuesday has been postponed due to ongoing rain and wet field conditions, with a makeup date to be announced.
