Oglethorpe Athletics and the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Sunday, February 9.
Established in 1987 as a day in our nation’s capital to recognize women in sports, National Girls and Women in Sports Day has evolved into a vibrant, nationwide celebration to inspire girls and women to play and be active, and to emphasize the importance of equal opportunity for all girls and women in sports.
At Oglethorpe, student-athletes in the SAAC will host a free sports clinic for kids, where basic skills required to participate in golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, volleyball, and track and field will be demonstrated by current Stormy Petrel Women’s team members. All participants will be able to join in the fun—girls and boys of all ages are invited to participate in the clinic.
The event will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the Schmidt Gym, and participants can stick around immediately after the clinic to catch the Women’s Basketball game at 1 p.m. and see the Petrels in action!
