Five Stormy Petrels named to SAA fall all-sportsmanship teams

The SAA released their fall all-sportsmanship teams Wednesday, recognizing student-athletes who displayed outstanding sportsmanship over the course of their seasons. The 2019 Oglethorpe student-athletes to earn SAA fall all-sportsmanship designation are as follows: Men’s cross country – Bill Lester Women’s cross country – Sarah Brummett Men’s soccer – Andrew Grodhaus Women’s soccer – Sara McDade Volleyball – Emilee Etter The SAA places a special emphasis on good sportsmanship, great character and fair play amongst all competitors.

Marcano earns second career coaches’ all-America honor

Senior forward Ryan Marcano of the Oglethorpe men’s soccer team earned the second all-America honor of his career Thursday from the United Soccer Coaches. The Stormy Petrel striker garnered a spot on the organization’s NCAA Division III men’s all-America second team, released Thursday evening in conjunction with the NCAA banquet prior to the men’s and women’s national semifinals in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Women’s basketball improves to No. 16 in latest coaches poll

The Oglethorpe women’s basketball team moved up three spots to No. 16 in the latest Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll this week. It marked the fourth time in 2019 that the WBCA ranked the Stormy Petrels, and served as the team’s highest ranking of the season.

Women’s basketball routs Berry 66-36 to open SAA play

The Oglethorpe women’s basketball team continued their run of outstanding play Saturday at Dorough Field House, beating the Berry Vikings 66-36 for their sixth win in a row and improving to 8-1 on the season overall. The Stormy Petrels jumped out to a 7-0 lead over the first 2:20 of the game.

Men’s Basketball

Men’s basketball succumbs to late Berry run in 67-56 loss

The Oglethorpe men’s basketball team hung tough with the visiting Berry Vikings Saturday night in the SAA opener for both teams in Dorough Field House. Up by a single point with 3:20 left, though, Berry went on a 12-2 run over a 3-minute stretch to take a 65-54 lead and ice the game.

Men’s Track and Field

Men’s track and field gets indoor season started at BSC Panther Indoor Invitational

The Oglethorpe men’s track and field team got their indoor season started Friday at the BSC Panther Indoor Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama. The Stormy Petrels scored no team points, but did see some in their ranks shake off the rust headed into the bulk of the season starting in January.
