The Oglethorpe men’s soccer team grabbed one of 21 general at-large bids to the NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship Monday, marking the program’s third trip to the national tournament and their second in three years. The 14-4 Stormy Petrels, currently ranked 18th in the country, will take on 11-7-1 Gettysburg in their first-round matchup at 1:30 p.m.

The SAA men’s soccer coaches voted nine members of the Oglethorpe men’s soccer team onto the All-SAA teams, released Monday by the league office. In addition, senior defender Christian Waegelin earned SAA Defensive Player of the Year honors, marking the fifth straight season in which a member of the team has earned a conference postseason award.
The SAA women’s soccer coaches voted junior goalkeeper Lindsey Bolas and freshman midfielder Kieran Burkey to the All-SAA honorable mention list, released Monday by the league office. It marked the second career All-SAA honor for Bolas, the other an honorable mention nod in 2017.
The Oglethorpe women’s basketball team swept the SAA/USA South Classic over the weekend, completing their season-opening pair of contests with an 83-76 victory over the Piedmont Lions Sunday afternoon at Dorough Field House. The Stormy Petrels withstood a Piedmont second-half comeback to hold onto victory down the stretch.
The Oglethorpe women’s basketball team made quick work of the visiting LaGrange Panthers in their season opener, defeating them 78-54 on Day 1 of the SAA/USA South Classic to start the season 1-0. The Stormy Petrels got 16 points from junior forward Savannah LeGate on 7-of-7 from the field, and she grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, as well.
The Oglethorpe women’s basketball team is set to take the floor Saturday to begin their season against in-state opponent LaGrange in the SAA/USA South Classic. The Stormy Petrels are coming off their second straight NCAA tournament appearance and their first victory at the national tournament since 2009.
The Oglethorpe men’s basketball team started their season out on a positive note against the visiting Warren Wilson Owls Saturday afternoon at Dorough Field House. The Stormy Petrels used a big run bridging halftime, outscoring the Owls 31-12 over an 11-minute span to put the game away and improve to 1-0 on the season.
The Oglethorpe men’s basketball team is set to tip off their 2019-20 season Saturday from Dorough Field House, as they look to follow up on a fourth-place finish in the SAA in 2018-19 and continue their streak of finishing in the top half of the league standings every year of the conference’s existence.
Three Oglethorpe volleyball players earned All-SAA honorable mention Monday as voted by the league’s coaches. Junior middle blocker TaKorya Green, sophomore outside hitter/setter Emma Williams and freshman outside hitter Jackie Schner all garnered the award. It served as the first career All-SAA award for all three Petrels.
The Oglethorpe volleyball team saw their season come to a close Friday evening in Birmingham, Alabama, as they fell to the homestanding Birmingham-Southern Panthers 3-0 in the first round of the SAA Tournament, dropping sets 25-16, 25-12 and 25-14. The loss meant that the Stormy Petrels end the season with a 6-20 overall record.
