The Oglethorpe men’s cross country team finished second at the Foothills Invite in Oxford, Alabama, Saturday morning, only coming in behind Division I South Alabama. The Stormy Petrels bested 23 other teams on the day, including a mix of Division III, Division II and NAIA competition, finishing with 68 points to come in just ahead of Division III power Emory and well ahead of the remaining 22 sides.
The Oglethorpe women’s cross country team finished 12th out of 21 teams Saturday at the Foothills Invite in Oxford, Alabama, finishing second among Division III competition. The Stormy Petrels accumulated 358 points to finish two spots below Birmingham-Southern and four spots ahead of LaGrange.
The Oglethorpe men’s golf team got off to a good start at the Oglethorpe-Royal Lakes Fall Invitational Monday at Royal Lakes Golf and Country Club in Flowery Branch, firing 6-under-par 282 to finish the opening round tied for third at four shots back of leader Hampden-Sydney.
Oglethorpe senior forward Ryan Marcano earned the SAA Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week from the league office Monday, marking his second such award of the season. Marcano served as the catalyst of the Petrel attack in the team’s 2-1 win over Sewanee on Saturday.
The Oglethorpe men’s soccer team extended their SAA regular-season unbeaten streak to 22 games Saturday. They built a 2-0 halftime lead over the homestanding Sewanee Tigers and held on in the second half for a 2-1 victory, improving to 7-3 on the season overall and 2-0 in SAA play.
The Oglethorpe women’s soccer team had a rough second half Saturday in Sewanee, Tennessee, as they gave up three goals to the homestanding Sewanee Tigers and fell 4-0. The loss dropped the Stormy Petrels to 8-3 on the season overall and 0-2 in SAA play.
The Oglethorpe volleyball team dropped their fifth straight match Sunday afternoon, falling 3-0 to the homestanding Hendrix Warriors in Conway, Arkansas. The 12-3 Warriors jumped on the Stormy Petrels early and didn’t let up, dropping the visitors to 5-12 overall and 0-7 in SAA play.
The Oglethorpe volleyball team fell behind early Saturday afternoon in Memphis, Tennessee, and never could get back into the contest, falling 3-1 to the homestanding Rhodes Lynx. The Stormy Petrels fell 25-20, 25-19, 22-25, 25-14. With the defeat, they fell to 4-11 on the season overall and 0-6 in SAA play.
