Go Petrels Athletics Update: Fall Seasons Start

The men’s soccer team finished first out of four teams at Emory’s Sonny Carter Invitational. The team beat no. 19 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in extra time on Friday, and handled Pomona-Pitzer 4-0 on Sunday to win the Invitational. Senior forward Ryan Marcano earned Southern Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week honors with two goals over the weekend.

Marcano earns weekly award as SAA’s best offensive player

Senior forward Ryan Marcano of the Oglethorpe men’s soccer team has been named the SAA Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the team’s victories over Claremont-M-S and Pomona-Pitzer at Emory’s Sonny Carter Invitational. Marcano got his season off to an outstanding start as the Petrels finished first in the four-team event.

Playing at the Emory Classic, the women’s volleyball team swept the opening day matches against Piedmont and Emory & Henry. Beating Belhaven on Sunday sees the team in a 3-0 start to the year. Sophomore Emilee Etter leads the team in kills at 30, and junior Hailee Bugg paces the defense with 54 digs.

Volleyball completes 3-0 opening weekend with 3-1 win over Belhaven

The Oglethorpe volleyball team moved to 3-0 to start the season at the Emory Classic Saturday, defeating Belhaven 3-1 from the Woodruff PE Center. The Stormy Petrels won two of three hotly-contested sets to start the match, then cruised to a 25-19 win in the fourth to secure the victory.

The women’s soccer team was also victorious in its opening match, scoring late to beat Benedictine. Junior goalie Lindsey Bolas earned SAA Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording seven saves.

Bolas garners SAA weekly soccer defensive award

Junior goalkeeper Lindsey Bolas of the Oglethorpe women’s soccer team has been named the SAA Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts in the Stormy Petrels’ season-opening victory over Benedictine (Illinois). Bolas enjoyed an outstanding game Friday night in the Petrels’ 1-0 season-opening win over the Eagles.

For the first time in program history, the women’s golf team is ranked in the preseason Women’s Golf Coaches Association Coaches Poll.

Women’s golf starts season No. 17 in WGCA coaches’ poll

The Oglethorpe women’s golf team will start the season at No. 17 in the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Coaches Poll. The organization released their preseason rankings this week, and it marked the first time that the Stormy Petrels have been ranked in the organization’s Division III preseason poll.
