Oglethorpe athletes shine in local Sunbelt Baseball League

This summer, six Oglethorpe students are on rosters for the Sunbelt Baseball League.

Established in 2005, the Sunbelt League is a collegiate summer baseball program based in metro Atlanta aimed at helping young college athletes achieve their dreams of playing at a professional level. It showcases talent from more than a hundred colleges and universities. Multiple Sunbelt League alumni have signed with and been drafted by Major League Baseball teams.

This summer, incoming freshmen Carson Weir ’23 and Ryan Whitener ’23 will pitch for the Marietta Patriots. Sophomore Rajan Sampat ’21 is a catcher for the Alpharetta Aviators. Sampat previously played for the Brookhaven Prospect Bucks team. And senior Noah Cole ’20 is a pitcher for the Brookhaven Bucks team, which uses Oglethorpe’s Hermance Stadium as their home field during the summer months.

Additionally, two Oglethorpe students are on Sunbelt League Prospect teams, which serve as feeders for the professional Sunbelt teams. Incoming freshman Sam Janis ’23 is a catcher for the Brookhaven Prospect Bucks and sophomore Will Arnold ’22 is an outfielder for the Norcross Prospect Astros.

The Brookhaven Buck’s schedule can be found on Oglethorpe’s calendar OU Connect, and all schedules may be found on the league’s website.
