Go Petrels Athletics Update: May 16-22

Senior Arielle Shaw graduated last Saturday, but her track and field career continues. Shaw qualified for the NCAA Division III championship in the triple jump, the third time she has done so in her career, and will compete this coming Saturday at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.  She was also awarded All-Region honors for the fourth consecutive year.

Arielle Shaw earns eighth career track and field All-Region honor

Senior Arielle Shaw of the Oglethorpe women’s track and field team took NCAA Division III outdoor track and field All-South/Southeast Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Sunday night. It marked her fourth career outdoor USTFCCCA All-Region honor, and her eighth career All-Region accolade counting the four she’s also earned for indoor track and field.

Shaw becomes NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships qualifier for third time

Senior Arielle Shaw of the Oglethorpe women’s track and field team qualified for the triple jump competition at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday, marking the third time in her four-year career that she’s earned her way into the Division III women’s triple jump finals.

The men’s golf team wrapped up its NCAA run with a seventh place finish. Senior Jake Arnett finished fourth individually and made it back to campus to graduate on Saturday. He also earned first team All-American honors for his efforts.

The Oglethorpe men’s golf team fired an 11-over-par 299 Friday in their final round at the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships in Nicholasville, Kentucky, moving to 48-over 1200 for the week and finishing seventh at 26 strokes back of champion Illinois Wesleyan.

Arnett earns first-team All-American honors after taking fourth place at NCAA Championships

Senior Jake Arnett of the Oglethorpe men’s golf team was named to the Ping All-America First Team Friday by the Golf Coaches Association of America. The award presentation took place at the conclusion of the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

Freshman Bryce McNealy also qualified for the NCAA Championship in Ohio in the 400-meter dash. McNealy and sophomore Jacob Hadden each earned All-Region honors this season.

Freshman Bryce McNealy of the Oglethorpe men’s track and field team qualified for the 400-meter dash competition at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday. It marked the third time that a member of the program qualified for the Division III national meet after Stephen Summerow and Nathan Briesemeister in 1992 and 1994, respectively.

Two men’s track and field athletes earn All-Region honors

Freshman Bryce McNealy and sophomore Jake Hadden both earned 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field All-South/Southeast Region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Sunday night. The Oglethorpe men’s track and field program has now placed three athletes on the All-Region list over the last two seasons.
