Spring teams finished up the season with Southern Athletic Association championships around the southeast.

Women’s lacrosse places three on All-SAA teams; Mapps-Whitmore earns first-team nod for first time in program history

The Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team saw three players earn spots on All-SAA squads Thursday, as voted by the league’s coaches. Junior defender Dreshona Mapps-Whitmore earned the first-ever All-SAA first team nod in the program’s history, while senior attacker Madison Goss slotted in at second team and junior goalie Jordan Chandler earned honorable mention.

The men’s golf team wrapped up a huge victory at the conference championship, winning by 23 strokes. Jake Arnett also won the individual crown.

Women’s golf earns second straight runner-up finish at SAA Championships

The Oglethorpe women’s golf team earned its second straight runner-up finish at an SAA Golf Championships Sunday, posting a team-best round of 23-over-par 315 at the Greystone Golf Club on the day to finish at 83-over 959, 27 strokes back of champions Rhodes.

In track and field, the men’s team finished fifth and women’s team seventh at the SAA championships. Jacob Hadden, Toju Etiwe, Rodrigo Meade, John Griner, Bryce McNealy, and Arielle Shaw placed first in either individual or relay events.

The Oglethorpe track and field teams competed at the SAA Track and Field Championships Friday and Saturday in Conway, Arkansas, with the men’s team taking fifth and the women coming in seventh over the course of the two-day event.

The men’s tennis team was close but couldn’t get past no. 2 Rhodes in the tournament semifinals.

Men’s tennis falls to Rhodes in SAA semifinals

The Oglethorpe men’s tennis team saw their season come to a close Saturday with a 5-2 defeat at the hands of No. 2 seed Rhodes in the semifinals of the SAA Men’s Tennis Tournament at the Adams Tennis Complex in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

The women’s team also fell to the no. 2 seed in its bracket.

Women’s tennis falls to No. 2 seed Centre in SAA first round

The Oglethorpe women’s tennis team fell to No. 2 seed Centre 5-0 in the first round of the SAA Tournament Friday afternoon at the Adams Tennix Complex in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The seventh-seeded Stormy Petrels saw their season end with an 8-8 overall record.

It was a wild weekend for the Stormy Petrels baseball team, who fought back from elimination before falling in a walkoff to nationally-ranked Birmingham-Southern.

It looked for much of the latter part of the game Sunday at Striplin Field in Birmingham, Alabama, like the Oglethorpe baseball team would force a decisive Game 2 in the pod finals of the SAA Baseball Championship. They entered the ninth inning up 3-1 with just three outs to get to force the winner-take-all contest.
