Oglethorpe junior first baseman Jack Bartlewski earned a spot on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week Tuesday, marking the second consecutive week in which the Stormy Petrels put a player on the website’s weekly honor roll. It marked the first such award of the infielder’s career.
Senior forward Lauren Ransom of the Oglethorpe women’s basketball team won the final SAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award of the season Monday, marking her second consecutive win and the third of her career.
Heading into the conference tournaments, women’s basketball will be a no. 2 seed and the men’s team will be a no. 4 seed. The women won their final regular season against Berry as the men dropped theirs.
The Oglethorpe women’s basketball team played a solid all-around game Saturday night to pick up their 20th victory of the season and defeat in-state opponent Berry 62-41 at Dorough Field House. It marked the second straight season in which the Stormy Petrels attained 20 wins, and the victory came on Senior Night.
The Oglethorpe men’s tennis team beat the Covenant Scots 8-1 on Saturday afternoon, earning a season-opening victory with an excellent performance at the Howell Courts. The Petrels swept the doubles competition, giving themselves a 3-0 lead headed into singles. The No. 1 doubles team of sophomore Walker Benson and senior Michael Santaloci and the No.
In Sewanee, the women’s track and field team finished second at the Sewanee Indoor Invitational, the men were fifth.

The Oglethorpe track and field teams enjoyed an excellent day at the Sewanee Indoor Invitational in Tennessee Friday. The women’s team finished second out of a five-team field, earning a trio of wins in the process. The men’s team finished fifth out of five, but did get a couple of top three finishes.
A tough week for both lacrosse teams. They’ll be back on the field this weekend.
The Oglethorpe men’s lacrosse team opened their season with an 18-5 loss to in-state opponent Piedmont in Demorest Wednesday night. The Stormy Petrels and Lions were tied 2-2 after the opening 15 minutes, but Piedmont responded by scoring 15 of the game’s next 16 goals to pull away to a 17-3 lead early in the fourth quarter.
The Oglethorpe women’s lacrosse team fell to the visiting Sewanee Tigers in their SAA opener Saturday afternoon at the Oglethorpe Track and Field. The Tigers blanked the Stormy Petrels 19-0, scoring 13 goals in the opening half of play to put the game out of reach early.
Baseball had three games over the weekend versus three different opponents and came out 1-2. It dropped games to nationally-ranked Christopher Newport and Pacific Lutheran before winning a slugfest against George Fox.
The Oglethorpe baseball team got an outstanding offensive performance on Sunday at a rain-soaked Anderson Field, breaking one individual single-game record and tying another, but they had to hold on to beat George Fox 19-13 in a wild slugfest.
