The Oglethorpe athletic department is pleased to announce the hiring of 2015 Oglethorpe alumna Anna (DiSalvo) Braun as its new head volleyball coach, effective immediately.
Braun comes to the Stormy Petrels with a wealth of experience in Atlanta-area collegiate and club volleyball. She served as the head volleyball coach at Agnes Scott College in nearby Decatur for the last two years, guiding the Scotties to their first two trips to the USA South conference tournament in program history. She also served as the assistant coach for the Scotties during the 2016 season.
The Tallahassee, Florida, native served as a coach for A5 Volleyball Club in the Atlanta area for seven years. She garnered numerous top 10 finishes in the regional tournament as a head coach, including a third-place finish in 2014. That team qualified for the junior national tournament.
An Oglethorpe Volleyball alumna, Braun was a stalwart outside hitter and setter for the Petrels from 2011-14. She garnered all-conference accolades three times, earning a spot on the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference third team in her freshman season of 2011 and winning All-SAA honorable mention in 2012 and 2013.
“It is a true honor and privilege to return home to Oglethorpe University and Dorough Field House,” said Braun. “I am extremely appreciative of President Schall, Dean Michelle Hall, AD Todd Brooks, and the search committee for believing in my ability to lead the Oglethorpe volleyball team into the future. I am deeply connected to the mission of Division III athletics and believe Oglethorpe University is the perfect place to develop high-character, disciplined, and competitive student-athletes. I am eager to get on campus and begin the journey of building strong relationships with the current players, establishing connections with recruits, and developing our program culture.”
Braun earned her bachelor’s degree in communication and rhetoric studies at Oglethorpe. She went on to attain a master’s degree in sport administration from Georgia State University in 2018.
She takes over a program coming off a 6-23 season in 2018. The Petrels finished seventh in the SAA with a 2-12 conference mark.
“We’re excited to welcome Anna to our staff,” said Oglethorpe Director of Athletics Todd Brooks. “I know that, as an alum, she has a love and passion for this institution and this program. When you combine that with her wealth of volleyball knowledge and her ability to recruit, I think she is an outstanding fit for this position. I look forward to watching Anna and the Stormy Petrel volleyball program turn the corner and move up the SAA standings in the coming years.”
