Go Petrels Athletics Update: January 16-22

The Oglethorpe track and field teams got their spring season underway at the Emory Crossplex Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama. Senior Rodrigo Meade had the best individual performance of the day finishing second in the mile run.

Men’s track and field finishes tied for 16th at Emory Crossplex Invitational

The Oglethorpe track and field teams got their spring season underway Sunday at the Emory Crossplex Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama, and the event saw the men’s team finish tied for 16th while the women’s team got several solid performances on the day.

Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams split weekend conference games. The women topped Hendrix but fell to Rhodes. They sit second in the conference standings. Meanwhile, the men were able to best Rhodes but dropped one to Hendrix. The Stormy Petrels will have a shot at redemption as Oglethorpe will host Rhodes and Hendrix this upcoming weekend in Dorough Field House.

Women’s basketball too much for Hendrix, pulls away to 68-47 win

The Oglethorpe women’s basketball team led for most of the game Sunday afternoon en route to a 68-47 victory over the Hendrix Warriors in Conway, Arkansas. The win improved the Stormy Petrels to 14-4 on the season overall and 5-2 in SAA play, maintaining a tie for second place in the league.

Men’s basketball pulls away from Rhodes in second half for 82-69 win

The Oglethorpe men’s basketball team used an outstanding second-half performance to run past the homestanding Rhodes Lynx 82-69 Friday night in Memphis, Tennessee. With the win, the Stormy Petrels improved to 9-8 on the season overall and an even 3-3 in SAA play, good enough to move them into a tie for fourth place in the league.

Spring brings a new golf season and the men’s and women’s team are prepared to make an impression in 2019.

2019 Men’s Golf Spring Preview

The Oglethorpe men’s golf program looks forward to the spring season to bounce back from a shaky fall. “We haven’t been out of the top 25 in about 15 years,” commented Oglethorpe Director of Golf Jim Owen. “This fall we sandwiched an early September win in Tennessee with an excellent final two rounds of 292-289 at Sandestin.

2019 Women’s Golf Spring Preview

The spring season is just weeks away and the Oglethorpe women’s golf team is anxiously awaiting the start of the 2019 campaign. The team is looking forward to welcoming back to the rotation junior Ana Garcia from Marietta, Georgia, and senior Katie Hanley from Miami.
