The SAA office named Oglethorpe sophomore center Savannah LeGate the SAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday. It marked the second career SAA weekly award for LeGate and her first of the 2018-19 season. LeGate proved instrumental in the team’s victories over Piedmont, Covenant and LaGrange over the course of the week.
The Emory Classic was unkind to men’s basketball over the weekend, as the Stormy Petrels dropped both games. Sophomore Will Koch led the team in points in a loss to Randolph Macon, and a ranked Maryville team proved too much in the second showdown.
The Oglethorpe men’s basketball team hung with the No. 22 Maryville (Tennessee) Scots Sunday afternoon at the Emory Thanksgiving Classic in Atlanta, but poor first-half shooting doomed the Stormy Petrels in a 65-56 loss at Emory’s Woodruff PE Center. The result dropped the Petrels to 2-3 on the season.
Their season may be over, but soccer awards are starting to come in. The men’s team put senior Topher Marshall on the United Soccer Coaches All-South Atlantic Region first team, and senior Devon Patterson and junior Andrew Grodhaus earned second team honors.
