Several teams will hold Senior Day this week as final regular season home games approach.
Men’s soccer remains undefeated and atop the leaderboard in Southern Athletic Association play. Last week included two wins.
The Oglethorpe men’s soccer team earned a 3-1 victory over Birmingham-Southern Sunday afternoon in Alabama. With the victory, they extended their SAA unbeaten streak to 18 games, their SAA winning streak to 10 games, and their overall winning streak to six games.
Women’s soccer added its first conference victory of the season, and will look to add more during two homes games this weekend.
The Oglethorpe women’s soccer team outplayed the homestanding Millsaps Majors Friday evening in Jackson, Mississippi, and got their reward with a second-half goal enough to lift them to a 1-0 SAA road victory. The win improved the Stormy Petrels to 4-8 on the season overall and 1-2 in SAA play.
Both the women’s and men’s golf teams traveled for invitationals early this week and brought home some solid showings.
The Oglethorpe women’s golf team got their stay in Lexington, Virginia, off to a good start Sunday, as they put up the third-place score through the first 18 holes at the General’s Invitational. They fired a 22-over-par 310 at the Lexington Golf and Country Club to finish the day 10 strokes back of first-place Carnegie Mellon.
The Oglethorpe men’s golf team finished their week at the Tartan Invitational in Ligonier Township, Pennsylvania, Tuesday with an 18-over-par 306 at the historic Laurel Valley Golf Club, giving them a 52-over 916 for the week and putting them in 10th place out of 12 teams, 43 strokes back of champions Wittenberg.
Results may not have favored the Petrels volleyball squad every night, but the crowds definitely did. The team did pick up a conference win over Centre in Dorough.
The Oglethorpe volleyball team earned their second SAA win of the season Saturday afternoon at Dorough Field House, defeating the visiting Centre Colonels in straight sets, 3-0. The win improved the Stormy Petrels to 4-14 overall and 2-7 in conference play. They earned their second victory of the season over Centre, as they also won a 3-2 barnburner Sept.
