Student-athletes to celebrate National Girls & Women in Sports Day with kids’ sports clinic

The Oglethorpe athletic department and the Oglethorpe Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Sunday, February 4. The event will take place at 11 a.m. in the Traditions lobby of Dorough Field House and in the Schmidt Recreation Center. [See map.]

In honor of that day, which will be celebrated throughout NCAA athletics, members of the Oglethorpe SAAC will put on a sports clinic for individual kids, where basic skills required to participate in golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, volleyball, and track and field will be demonstrated by the SAAC members. All participants will be able to join in the fun and girls and boys of all ages are invited to participate in the clinic, as are local youth sports teams.

The clinic will lead up to the start of the Oglethorpe basketball games against SAA rival Rhodes in Dorough Field House that day, beginning at 1 p.m. with the women’s game and followed by the men’s game at 3 p.m. All clinic participants will receive free admission to both games, and there will be a meet-and-greet with the women’s basketball team after their game.

National Girls & Women in Sports Day began in 1987 as a special day in our nation’s capital to recognize women’s sports. The day united premiere organizations and elite female athletes to bring national attention to the promise of girls and women in sports.
