Satisfy your curiosity by taking a community course

Enrich yourself with continuing education and professional development courses at Oglethorpe University

Learning isn’t reserved for undergrads

Oglethorpe offers a variety of courses open to the public. Whether you choose to continue your education with a second (or third, or fourth) language, or learn a brand new subject, community courses allow you to take advantage of one of the top liberal arts colleges in the country, right in your city.

Classes are generally after work hours, once a week, for eight weeks, and offered over two sessions. Take a look at a few of the offerings this fall.

Telling Your Own Story – Write your personal narrative. An Oglethorpe faculty member will help you reach back to find those family stories and articulate them so that you’ll be able to share them for years to come. Consider it time to work on your memoir.

Visual Arts and Aesthetics – Love art but don’t feel like you know how to talk about it? The Oglethorpe University Museum of Art director will teach you a “toolkit of techniques” to enhance your understanding and enjoyment of visual art. Includes two field trips to galleries and museums to test out your new skills. If you like the idea of art field trips, you should also check out Opera for Beginners and Collecting and Connoisseurship.

Persian – Farsi is closer than you’d imagine with this language course. And it’s no more difficult than learning a romance language. Speaking of those, Italian, Spanish and French are here for the taking. Not to mention Swedish and Hebrew.

The American Dream: Achieved, Deferred or Destroyed? – Are you a news junkie? Politics professor Dr. Joe Knippenberg examines the ever-burning question that drives our country. You can also explore Contemporary Constitutional Controversies to see how a document from the 18th century continues to shape our daily lives.

Test Prep – If you’re getting ready to take the ACT or SAT you better be prepared. These three week intensive courses come with access to an instructor with years of experience in teaching and university admissions.

Session 1, 8 weeks: August 21 – October 13
Session 2, 8 weeks: October 16 – December 15
