President Lawrence Schall talks free speech on GPB’s “On Second Thought”

Oglethorpe University President Lawrence Schall joined Agnes Scott College Associate Vice President Kijua Sanders-McMurtry for a segment with Celeste Headlee during her Georgia Public Broadcast radio show, “On Second Thought,” to discuss balancing free speech and safety on campus.

The conversation was focused around controversial speaking appearances by Betsy DeVos, Ann Coulter and Richard Spencer at colleges across the country.

When President Schall was asked how Oglethorpe approached inviting speakers he responded, “When we give the platform of our campus over to someone, we like to do that in a way that is consistent with the values we hold as an institution.”
