The American Conservative invited Oglethorpe politics professor Dr. Joseph Knippenberg to give commentary on yesterday’s election for Georgia’s 6th District, left vacant by Tom Price, now U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services and Human Services. A runoff between Republican Karen Handel and Democrat Jon Ossoff will be held in June.

In “Runoff, Rhymes with Ossoff“, Knippenberg poses the question: “why are Republicans relieved to hold a Democrat below 50 percent in a district they’ve held since 1978?” Answer, in part? “If you’ll pardon my alliteration, I’ll offer three answers: trends, turnout, and Trump.”  Read the full article.
