“My Salt” financial service available to entire Oglethorpe community

Salt is a free and unbiased nonprofit-backed financial education program dedicated to demystifying the college financing process and providing financial knowledge needed for college and beyond. This service is FREE to everyone in the Oglethorpe community, including students, alumni, faculty and staff. “My Salt,” a personalized extension of the Salt platform, was released in March 2017.

As part of the education finance support program, My Salt offers a new group of features that personalizes saltmoney.org to meet Salt users’ goals and expectations in an even more sophisticated way. Users rank their overall financial goals, answer follow-up questions, and then receive relevant Salt content recommendations based on their responses. Other features within this experience help Salt users track and monitor their progress.

“Our goal is to provide Salt users with an experience that is easy-to-use and tailored to meet their needs,” said Susan Nathan, chief operating officer at American Student Assistance, the nonprofit behind Salt. “Through Salt’s digital platform offerings, ASA is working to provide students and student loan borrowers with the resources they need at their fingertips to unlock the potential of college and achieve their postgraduate dreams.”

Some of the benefits of a SALT account include:

  • Financial education videos, BuzzFeed-esque articles, and quizzes
  • Tools and resources to help you manage your student loans
  • Resources for finding scholarships to use at Oglethorpe or in grad school
  • Powerful, customized job search tools
