Alumnus John Burke ’11 nominated for Grammy Award

Congratulations to pianist and composer John Burke ’11, who has been nominated for a Grammy Award in the category of Best New Age Album for his 2016 release “Orogen”!

Since graduation, John has released six albums: four solo piano albums, a collaborative work featuring piano, flute and spoken word; and, a soundtrack to accompany a production of “A Streetcar Named Desire.” His album “Orogen” and other works are available for purchase or download on John’s website.

At Oglethorpe, John majored in Spanish and minored in music, studied abroad in Madrid, and was active in theatre. He was named the 2010 “Singer of the Year” and the 2011 “Instrumentalist of the Year”. He is a member of Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership honor society.

In 2015, John earned a Master of Public Administration in Management and Finance from Georgia State University. He is currently associate director of music at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Atlanta.

The 59th Annual Grammy Awards will be held in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 12.
