Dr. Robert Hornback Wins 2016 Lu Thomasson Garrett ’52 Award for Meritorious Teaching

Robert-Hornback-1-258x300[1]Dr. Robert Hornback, professor of English and division chair, was awarded the Lu Thomasson Garrett ’52 Award for Meritorious Teaching at Oglethorpe University’s Commencement on May 14, 2016. Last year’s recipient, Dr. Lynn Gieger, presented the award.

This award was established in 1994 through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. David (Lu Thomasson) Garrett. The late Mrs. Garrett was a 1952 Oglethorpe graduate, an honorary degree recipient, and member emerita of the Board of Trustees. The prize is awarded annually to an outstanding faculty member selected by a committee of his or her peers.

Dr. Hornback joined the Oglethorpe faculty in 2000 and is Division Chair for English and Theatre. He earned his B.A. at University of California, Berkeley, and M.A. and Ph.D. at University of Texas, Austin. His teaching and research interests include Shakespeare, non-Shakespearean drama and comedy, other Renaissance literature and culture, Chaucer, Medieval literature, drama (ancient to modern), and ancient literature.
