Presidents’ Dinner Recognizes Student Leadership

On January 26, President Larry Schall hosted the first annual Presidents’ Leadership Dinner in collaboration with Senior Class President Alex Attebery ’16. The event, held in the Turner Lynch Campus Center, was attended by more than 80 Oglethorpe student leaders, faculty and staff members and was organized to recognize exceptional leadership within the student body.

Oglethorpe Board Chair Ceree Eberly, chief people officer and senior vice president for The Coca-Cola Company, addressed the group and urged student leaders to focus on the creation of vision, purpose, and passion, that inspires a legacy of leadership.

“It is incredibly encouraging to see the administration, faculty, and staff rally around the student leaders of Oglethorpe,” said Attebery. “I hope this becomes a yearly tradition that empowers those [leaders] to make a positive impact both on our campus as well as in the community around us.”

Planning for the event by President Schall and Attebery had been in the works since early November, with assistance from Campus Life offices. The festive evening featured a catered meal and live entertainment by Asheville band One Step Up.

“I think it was a wonderful example of the power and creativity of student leadership,” said President Schall, “and [I] certainly hope this year is the start of another great tradition at Oglethorpe.”
