Announcement from Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health:

Shaniece Criss is graduating with her Doctor of Science degree from the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.  She was awarded funding from the National Cancer Institute, the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, and the National Institutes of Health.  Her research aims to integrate the fields of social epidemiology, behavioral sciences, and health communication to influence public health policy to reduce health disparities. In addition to completing her dissertation, Shaniece managed a media intervention in two communities for the Massachusetts Childhood Obesity Research Project, and she served as the Media Advisor for the school’s Prevention Research Center.

During her Peace Corps service, Shaniece served as producer and host for a national, television show for the Ministry of Health in Guyana, South America.  Previously, she was a research associate for ICF International and held positions at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Cable News Network (CNN). Shaniece received her M.P.H. from Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University, and her B.A. from Oglethorpe University in Communication with a focus in Urban Leadership.

Shaniece was selected as an Oval Office Political Campaign Trainee at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, which provides leadership for women to ascend in the electoral process at the local, state, and national levels. After graduation, Shaniece will focus on public health, policy, and politics at the Harvard Kennedy School as a Presidential Public Service Fellow.
