Dr. Lynn Guhde, associate professor of business administration, was honored with the Vulcan Materials Company’s Teaching Excellence Award at Oglethorpe University’s annual honors and awards ceremony on April 12, 2013.
Established in 1991, the “Vulcan Teaching Excellence Awards” annually honor an outstanding professor on selected member campuses of the Georgia Independent College Association. The award is presented to a member of the faculty in recognition of excellence in teaching, commitment to student success, and leadership to enhance campus community.
Dr. Karen Schmeichel, assistant professor of biology, presented the award to Dr. Guhde, whom she called “a true pioneer, both with her innovative approach to curriculum development and with the proactive spirit she brings to all of her administrative work.”
Dr. Guhde received her B.S. and B.A. degrees from Slippery Rock State College, and her M.B.A. and Ph.D. from Kent State University. She joined Oglethorpe’s faculty in 2004 and has served as Chair of the Economics & Business Administration Division since 2009. Recognizing the value of experiential learning as an effective teaching tool, she initiated the development of Oglethorpe’s Nonprofit Management minor, a curriculum introduced in 2011 that has quickly become a signature program for the university.
