OU’s Carillon Magazine Takes Home Three Industry Awards

The fall 2010 Carillon featured Oglethorpe’s new lacrosse team.

Last week, at the 2011 annual conference of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) in New Orleans, Oglethorpe University’s magazine, the Carillon, was recognized three times for publications excellence. Competing in a pool of almost 1000 applicants, the alumni magazine earned the CASE Special Merit distinction in each category for which it was nominated.

The Carillon placed in the categories: Improvement in Design; Magazine Publishing Improvement; and Alumni Magazines I (the category for institutions with 5000 or fewer students). The past two Carillon issues (spring and fall 2010) were the products of recent editorial and design overhauls by editor Renee Vary and Atlanta education marketing firm EM2.

The Carillon was judged against other magazines, many of which have larger staffs dedicated solely to magazine production.  Conversely, OU’s magazine relies on the help and input from various OU staff and volunteer OU alumni writers.

CASE is an international association that serves its member educational institutions and their staffs in development/fundraising, alumni relations, communications, and marketing.

Look for the next issue of the Carillon in May 2011.
