Oglethorpe alumna Dar’shun Kendrick ’04, who, with almost 83% of the vote, won her bid for Georgia State representative during the 2010 election. January of 2011, she represented 94th District in the state House of Representatives.

Throughout her campaign, Kendrick emphasized the need for education reform and its connection to long-term economic development. According to her campaign website, kendrickforgeorgia.com, she planned to vote to restore funding to the school system—eliminating educator furloughs and school closings. In the long-run, she planned to back laws that treat education funds as “hands off,” protecting education monies during tough economic climates.

A native of South DeKalb, Kendrick brought to her post a personal connection to her District, as well as an accomplished background in politics and local leadership.

While at Oglethorpe, she interned on Capitol Hill with then-Congresswoman Denise Majette, worked as the youth coordinator for the Young Democrats of Georgia, and served as a committee intern for Representative George Maddox at the state capital.

On campus, she founded Oglethorpe’s Young Democrats chapter and kept busy in student government, serving as student body president during her senior year.
