Oglethorpe Wins Top Communications & Marketing Awards

In February 2014, Oglethorpe’s University Communications Department was recognized by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) with two top awards for best practices in external relations and graphic design. Oglethorpe competed against colleges of various sizes across the country.

CASE district III awards (2)College Presidents for Gun Safety won the Grand Award (gold) in the category of External Relations Engagement Program. The advocacy initiative was launched by Oglethorpe University President Larry Schall following the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut in December 2012. President Schall drafted an open letter calling for our nation’s government to enact stricter gun laws and to increase consumer safety standards. His letter garnered the support of more than 360 college presidents across the country and the attention of national leaders in Washington.

Carillon Spring 2013 cover high resThe Spring 2013 Carillon magazine won the Award of Excellence (silver) for graphic design. The issue was a collaborative effort of Oglethorpe and EM2, an educational communications company in Atlanta, that has designed the magazine since 2010.

The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) is an international association that serves its member educational institutions and their staffs in development/fundraising, alumni relations, communications, and marketing. Every year, collegiate communication departments submit their latest projects and periodicals to CASE for judging in the annual competition.

Oglethorpe Wins Four MarCom Awards for Communications

Carillon Spring 2013 cover high resOglethorpe’s University Communications received top honors recently, winning four 2013 MarCom Awards, which recognize creative work that achieves a high level of excellence and sets a benchmark for other industries in the field.

Oglethorpe’s top awards were the first place Platinum Award for the Oglethorpe University Carillon magazine, Spring 2013 edition and the Gold Award for the 2012-2013 admission viewbook, sent to prospective students during recruitment.

Pegasus_logo_final_RETINAIn addition, Oglethorpe received honorable mentions for the video “Oglethorpe University at the Core” (view below) and the logo for Pegasus Creative, Oglethorpe’s student communications agency launched by University Communications in fall 2012.

The MarCom Awards are an annual competition for marketing and communication professionals around the world. Platinum and Gold Awards are a tremendous achievement and are presented to institutions which display the highest level of artistry in their fields.The pieces recognized are magazines, videos, pamphlets, and posters with impressive graphic design and creative content. Each entry is judged by members of the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, which consists of thousands of media and creative professionals who are experienced in the recognition of remarkable workmanship.marcomlogo

Gold and Platinum awards are symbolized by a handcrafted statuette which graces the trophy cases of Fortune 500 Companies, independent media conglomerates… and now the halls of Oglethorpe University.

New Carillon Magazine Now Online — and in a Mailbox Near You!

The newest issue of the award-winning Carillon is here!

This issue explores Oglethorpe’s engagement in the world, recalling the beginnings of international study and examining how the university and its partners continue to make an imprint on our world today.

The Carillon also shares how Oglethorpe alumni endeavor to “make a difference,” relating  stories of Petrels who have made their marks around the globe.  And, the pages of this issue introduce us to globetrotters like Scott Zannini ’96, a mountain climber who makes fascinating trips to the Earth’s highest summits, and Rodney Drinkard ’92, who manages international security for top Coca-Cola executives.
